Win453 error

Is your computer experiencing an error with Win453 while trying to shut down?  Have you recently installed a Defender Pro Security program?  If you answered yes, the problem is not any kind of spyware or malware.  There is a problem with the Defender Pro program that renders Win453 incapable of automatically shutting down along with your computer.

After contacting Defender Pro, they informed me that they are aware of the issue and are currently investigating it.  The error seems to be limited to the program’s interaction with the Windows XP operating system.  However, the error message is the only negative effect.  It does not indicate the presence of a virus.

How do you deal with the error while waiting for the issue to be solved?  When the message pops up, simply click the End Now or End Task button.  In most cases, this is all that needs to be done.  In other cases, it may be necessary to exit the Defender Pro Security program before attempting to shut down your computer.  To do this, locate the Defender Pro icon on the system tray next to the clock in the taskbar.  Then, right-click the icon and select the option to exit Defender Pro.

Thanks for letting me know exactly why that WIN 453 keeps popping up whenever I turn off the computer. Defender Pro is otherwise great software. I will start to exit Defender Pro before turning off the computer. Nuisance abated, I guess :-)

What if clicking on End Now still does not work? Each time I click on it, the same message pops up seconds later.
I also checked the system tray beside the clock and the icon for the Defender Pro is not visible, so I can only assume it has already exited.

    Dear Melanie,
I have only experienced your particular situation once. It worked each time I tried it later. If you know clicking End Now will not do the trick, make sure Defender Pro is exited before trying to shut down your computer. That should be done before, not during, the shut down process that causes the Win 453 message to pop up. If that does not work, check the inside of your computer for evil leprechauns.

The problem is well known and documented in the above statements. I just have not been able to do anything with the WIN453 problem.

My Defender-Pro antivirus license expired on March 28, 2008 and their website will not let me renew it. I can fill in the required spaces but it will not recalculate or go to checkout so I can renew. I have emailed them a message regarding this problem but have not yet received an answer. Any suggestions?

    Dear Mary,
After submitting information for a renewal, you should recieve an email with a link. I think the email also contains the new licsense numbers you will need. Also, be sure your previous Defender Pro software is totally uninstalled before attempting to renew. Even if the subscription is expired, you will likely need to uninstall it. If this isn’t a solution to your issue, I’m not sure what to do other than wait for a response from Defender Pro. They are generally quick to respond. In the meantime, here is a link to the installation instructions for the renewal. Just double-check.
